ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) intensified preparations for a significant sit-in at D-Chowk on Friday (today) with workers from across Pakistan converging on the capital following a call to action by JI’s Deputy Chief Liaqat Baloch.
Addressing a press conference, Baloch warned the federal government that any attempts to obstruct the “peaceful sit-in” would be met with nationwide escalation.

The sit-in by JI at D-Chowk is aimed at addressing economic grievances, including demands to review agreements with independent power producers (IPPs), reduce electricity and gas tariffs, and lower prices of petroleum products.
Baloch criticised the government’s economic policies, blaming them for exacerbating financial burdens on the public due to what he described as compliance with detrimental International Monetary Fund (IMF) directives.
Accompanied by JI Naib Ameer Mian Muhammad Aslam and Islamabad Ameer Nasarullah Randhawa, Baloch said that the sit-in’s core agenda is to force the government to provide relief by withdrawing additional taxes and alleviating the rising cost of living.
