ISLAMABAD: Islamabad’s newly launched drone traffic monitoring system has started to show results, catching more than 200 violations in just its first week of use.
According to a report issued by the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP), drones identified 208 traffic violations over a period of seven days. Based on this footage, officers issued 163 tickets, while 45 drivers received warning letters.
The system, introduced a week ago, uses drone cameras to monitor traffic in real-time. The aim is to improve road safety and keep a closer eye on reckless driving, especially in areas that are hard to monitor through regular patrolling.
Chief Traffic Officer Zeeshan Haider said the drones have proven to be a useful tool for traffic surveillance and enforcement. “We’re seeing results already, and this is just the beginning,” he said.
He added that the coverage of the drone system will soon be expanded across the entire city. “There is no room for violating traffic laws in Islamabad,” he said.
