ISLAMABAD: Prominent religious and political leader, Senator Professor Sajid Mir, head of Jamiat Ahle Hadith Pakistan, passed away on Saturday after suffering a heart attack, his family confirmed. He was 86 years old.
He belonged to a suburban area of District Sialkot and remained a member of the senate from March 2009 to March 2015. The news of his demise sent shockwaves across religious and political circles, with many expressing deep sorrow and paying tribute to his services. A learned person and known for his scholarship, Professor Sajid Mir held an M.A in English and Islamic Studies alongside a BA in Economics with Urdu and Psychology. Her was also a Fazil in Dars-e-Nizami.

He was affiliated with Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) and became a part of the Senate during his affiliation. Political leaders across party line expressed grief over the passing.
Condolences pour in
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and political leaders expressed profound grief over the demise of former Senator and Professor Sajid Mir.
In a condolence message, PM Shehbaz said: “The void left by Sajid Mir’s passing in Pakistani politics cannot be filled. His life was a golden chapter of service to both politics and religion.” The premier praised Mir’s consistent stance against extremism and sectarianism, praying for the elevation of the deceased’s spiritual status and patience for the bereaved family.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) spokesperson Shazia Marri termed Mir’s death “a great loss to Parliament,” stating his name would be forever remembered in Pakistan’s parliamentary history. “We share the grief of his family and pray for them in this difficult time,” Marri said.
IPP President Aleem Khan also extended condolences to the bereaved family, stating “Senator Mir’s religious and political services will be long remembered.”
Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman also mourned the senator’s death, paying tribute to his national services. “Professor Sajid Mir’s contributions to the nation will never be forgotten.”
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed grief over the loss, dubbing it as a “huge and irreparable loss for the Muslim world.”
“Professor Sajid Mir was a moderate leader, a visionary figure, and a strong advocate for unity and harmony,” Maulana Fazlur Rehman added.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman added that Professor Mir’s contributions both inside and outside Parliament were invaluable: “He was a kind elder and a compassionate human being. His multi-dimensional services and honorable character are praiseworthy.” Maulana Fazlur Rehman also extended his condolences to Professor Mir’s family, supporters, and the broader religious community, saying: “I stand with them in this time of grief.”
