Jinnah Square underpass project near completion

ISLAMABAD: Almost 90  per cent of the Jinnah Square Murree  Road underpass is complete, Interior Minister Mohsin  Naqvi said during a pre‑dawn inspection of the project on Monday.

Minister of State for Interior Talal  Chaudhry accompanied him.

He also directed authorities to enhance the area with greenery and top-quality landscaping to improve the visual appeal and public experience.

Naqvi reviewed construction progress and directed the Capital Development Authority to finish the scheme within the deadline of May 22, insisting that all sections operate 24/7 until completion.

The minister noted that once opened, the underpass will create a signal‑free corridor from Islamabad Airport to Murree and Kashmir, saving commuters both time and fuel.

CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa briefed the ministers, saying the roof slab has been cast and horticulture and electrical work has started. Drainage, road‑base preparation and asphalt laying are also under way as the project enters its final phase.

The 479‑metre Jinnah Square Murree Road underpass will carry three traffic lanes and forms part of a wider scheme to cut journey times. The project also widens the adjacent bridge by two lanes on each side and enlarges four nearby slip roads to keep traffic moving smoothly.
