KARACHI: Authorities in Karachi have cracked down on illegal cattle markets (bakra mandi) in recent days, with the city’s commissioner claiming to have shut down 45 illegal temporary markets on Friday.
The commissioner stated he also issued directives to ensure continued action against the unauthorised markets. He said this would help prevent traffic congestion and citizen inconvenience.

The commissioner went on to state that no illegal cattle markets were allowed to operate without proper permission from relevant authorities in Karachi. In case of violation, “strict action” would be taken, including the registration of cases.
The deputy commissioners were directed to enforce the closure of illegal cattle markets.
Meanwhile, the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) announced a ban on open space and road slaughter. The CBC spokesperson stated the ban was to maintain cleanliness and promote a cleaner environment in Karachi.
With Eidul Azha approaching, the board took measures to help residents with the slaughter while ensuring adherence to regulatory standards. Designated areas for sacrificial rites were established across 14 locations within the CBC’s jurisdiction.
