Karachi: Chaos erupts at grand opening of Dream Bazaar

KARACHI: The grand opening of Dream Bazaar, a new clothing, accessories and homeward stores in Gulistan-e-Johar turned into a scene of chaos and destruction on Friday night in Karachi.

According to sources, the chaos then spread out on the streets, as people fought and disordered regained supreme both, inside and outside the mall.

The opening ceremony of the Dream Bazaar mall was heavily promote on social media and drew a massive crowd. This led to severe traffic congestion several roads long.

Eyewitnesses account and videos posted on social media shows how as the crowd grew, so did the disorder.

People continued forcing their way inside the mall despite lack of space, resulting on overcrowding and significant damage to private property.

Footage obtained by several media outlets from the scene shows people fighting and vandalising the interior of the mall, exacerbating the situation.

As chaos unfolded inside the now-Nightmare Bazaar, traffic on main roads leading to the mall came to a standstill due to large number of people attempting to enter. The situation quickly spiraled out of control, prompting the mall authorities to call in the police.

The grand opening of the Dream Bazaar ended in a mayhem. The lack of adequate crowd management and security measured contributed to an escalating nightmare, leaving many bystanders caught up in the line of fire.
