Karachi faces electricity shortage, widespread load shedding

KARACHI: Karachi is experiencing significant electricity shortage, with demand reaching 3,500 megawatts (MW) while K-Electric supplies only 2,900 MW to the city.

Load shedding is impacting various parts of Karachi, with durations varying by area. Residents in New Karachi, North Karachi, and North Nazimabad are facing outages of six to eight hours.
Meanwhile, in Federal B Area, Liaquatabad Town, and Kharadar, the load shedding extends to eight to twleve hours.
Areas such as Lyari, Baldia Town, Korangi, Orangi Town, and Malir are experiencing outages lasting up to ten hours.

Despite these issues, K-Electric reports that 70 per cent of Karachi is receiving uninterrupted electricity. The company stated that load shedding is confined to 30 percent of the city’s areas. K Electric also asserted that there is no unannounced load shedding occurring in any part of Karachi.
