Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor hosts Arshad Nadeem in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Pakistan’s national hero and gold medallist, Arshad Nadeem, was warmly received at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor House on Monday. Governor Faisal Karim Kundi welcomed the celebrated athlete for an Independence Day event. The Olympian athlete also addressed the event.

Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed his delight in welcoming Arshad Nadeem, stating, “After a long time, Arshad Nadeem has brought happiness to the nation.” He highlighted the importance of government support for athletes, saying, “The federal and provincial governments should support athletes. Winning a gold medal as an individual is a great achievement.”

Arshad Nadeem was presented with a traditional turban by Governor Kundi, symbolising the province’s appreciation and respect for his achievements. Governor Kundi emphasised the role of his administration in fostering young talent, asserting, “With our support, these players will brighten the name of the country and the nation.”

Arshad Nadeem shared with the attendees that he started his athletic journey in 2012 at the encouragement of his elder brother. Since then he has made significant contributions to Pakistan’s athletics scene. He expressed his gratitude to the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) for their support throughout his career, noting that since 2015, he has broken numerous records both domestically and internationally.

Reflecting on his success, Arshad Nadeem said, “Not only did I win the gold medal, but I also set a new record with the prayers of the nation. Hard work was rewarded, and the nation is honoured.” He credited his achievements to the unwavering support of his family, coaches, and the Pakistani people.

Governor Kundi reiterated the need for substantial support for athletes from the government, stating, “Now, seriously, the government needs to support the athletes. Individually, after years, such a player is born.” He commended Arshad Nadeem for his dedication and hard work, which have brought pride to the nation.
