Kite flying non bailable crime

LAHORE: The Punjab Cabinet has approved significant amendments to the Kite Flying (Prohibition) Act of 2007, as announced by the Punjab Home Department spokesperson.

Under the new amendments, kite flying, kite-making, and the transportation of kites and related materials, such as metallic string and twine, have been classified as non-bailable offences.

Offenders can face imprisonment of three to five years, a fine of up to PKR 2 million, or both. In cases of non-payment of the fine, an additional one-year imprisonment may be imposed.

For those involved in kite manufacturing or transportation, the penalties are more severe. Convictions could result in imprisonment of five to seven years or a fine of up to PKR 5 million. Failure to pay the imposed fine could lead to an additional two years in prison.

In the case of minors engaged in kite flying, the new regulations stipulate a warning for the first offence. If caught a second time, a fine of PKR 50,000 will be imposed, and a third violation will result in a fine of PKR 100,000.
