KP faces shortage of 42,000 election security personnel

PESHAWAR: In the lead-up to the elections, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government finds itself grappling with a significant shortfall of 42,000 security personnel. In response to the pressing need, the provincial government has formally requested the Federation for the deployment of the Frontier Constabulary (FC).

Official sources reveal that a staggering 134,000 security personnel are deemed necessary to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections.

Despite Khyber Pakhtunkhwa currently employing over 90,000 security personnel, the shortfall remains a critical concern. Of particular note, 4,812 polling stations in the province are identified as highly sensitive, with an additional 6,500 marked as sensitive.

To accommodate the diverse needs of voters, especially those with disabilities, a commendable effort has been made. A total of 181 polling stations have been declared sensitive, while an extensive network of 15,137 polling stations will be set up across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Furthermore, 6,000 ramps have been constructed to facilitate access for individuals with special needs, as per official sources. Additional ramps are currently in the process of being prepared.

Caretaker Chief Minister Ashad Hussain Shah has asserted a steadfast commitment to ensuring an equal and secure electoral environment for all political parties. Emphasising the importance of adherence to rules and regulations during the election campaign, Shah urged political parties to play their part responsibly.

In a bid to maintain order and streamline election-related activities, the caretaker chief minister has issued directives for political gatherings to be held at designated locations. With preparations in full swing, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government remains focused on overcoming the security personnel shortage and ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process.
