KP govt announces public holiday on 1st Muharram

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Thursday announced a public holiday on the 1st of Muharram.

A notification in this regard was issued by KP administration department.

Separately, the district administration has imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in Gilgit for two months to ensure peace and security during the holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram.

When is Muharram in Pakistan?

e central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on July 6 in Quetta for the sighting of Muharram moon the beginning of new Islamic calendar.

The meeting will be presided over by Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.

Zonal committees will also hold meetings for the sighting of Muharram moon in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar on the same day.
