KP govt requests judicial commission to investigate May 9 events

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has initiated steps to establish a Judicial Commission to inquire into the events of May 9. Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam announced that a letter has been written to the Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, requesting the formation of the commission.

According to Law Minister Aftab Alam, the Chief Justice will nominate the judge who will head the commission. However, there has been no response from the Chief Justice regarding the request.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has confirmed that the Judicial Commission will be established under the chairmanship of a High Court Judge. The proposal for the commission received approval from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cabinet.

CASE MANAGAMENT POLICY

In a related development, PHC Chief Justice Ibrahim chaired a meeting on Case Management Policy with the District & Sessions Judges of Kohat, Hangu, and Orakzai on Saturday. Members of the Administration Committee, judicial officers of the three districts, member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, Peshawar High Court Bar Association President also attended the meeting.

One of the unanimously placed demands placed before the Chair for consideration was the establishment of a Circuit Court. The need for imparting refresher courses and training on subjects like ethics, morality and professionalism was also discussed. During the meeting, Senior Puisne Judge, Justice Ijaz Anwar, emphasised on eradication of corruption and malpractices from judiciary.
