KP govt to construct new power transmission line

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has entered into a construction agreement with a private company to construct a power transmission line. The contract for the new transmission line was signed today at the Chief Minister House in Peshawar.

In the first phase of the project, a 40-kilometer transmission line will be constructed from Matiltan valley in Kalam to Madyan in Swat.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said that the project is expected to be completed within a year and a half, with an estimated cost of Rs 8 billion. Through this power line, the electricity generated in Swat will be supplied to the local industries as well as to the national grid, the chief minister said.

Upon completion, the first phase of the project will generate an income of Rs 7 billion annually for the provincial government. “Hydropower projects of hundreds of megawatt capacity are underway in Swat”, Gandapur said, adding that the completion of the project will revolutionise the energy and industry sectors in the province.

“Cheap electricity will be provided to local industries through transmission line”, the chief minister said.
