KP public schools lack basic facilities

PESHAWAR: Thousands of public schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are deprived of essential facilities such as toilets, clean drinking water, and electricity, according to a recent report.
From primary to higher secondary levels, a staggering 2,414 schools are missing these basic amenities. Specifically, 1,149 schools lack access to clean drinking water. The report highlights a severe shortage of toilets in 1,317 schools from primary to higher secondary levels in Peshawar alone.
The situation in KP public primary schools is particularly dire, with 1,253 schools having no toilet facilities. Moreover, across the province, 1,057 primary schools are without clean drinking water. Over 2,000 primary schools are without electricity, and 1,816 lack boundary walls, making them vulnerable.

The issue extends from Dera Ismail Khan to Chitral, affecting 2,032 government schools with no boundary walls.
Despite the gravity of the situation, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Education Minister, Faisal Turki, has refrained from commenting on the matter.
The report underscores the urgent need for improvements in the province’s educational infrastructure to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for students.
