LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday directed the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore to decide on granting permission to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for its rally at Lahore’s Liberty Chowk by Friday.
Justice Raheel Kamran Sheikh heard the petition filed by Advocate Azeemullah Khan, seeking permission for the party’s public gathering at the chowk on 15 October. Additional Advocate General (AAG) Ghulam Sarwar Nahang represented the Punjab government in the court.
During the hearing, the judge questioned the AAG: “What is making you stop PTI from holding a rally?” He further directed, “Please decide by tomorrow whether the party is allowed to hold the event or not. If the answer is in the negative, provide reasons for that.”
The AAG stated he would ask the DC to submit a report in this regard.
Expressing its displeasure over the absence of the petitioner’s senior lawyer, the court adjourned the case’s hearing until tomorrow.
PTI had approached the LHC on Tuesday, seeking an order for permission to hold a rally at the conjunction of the famous Liberty Market in Lahore.
