LAHORE: Despite recommendation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Finance Ministry’s decision of not reducing the price of petrol by Rs15 per litre has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.
The petition was filed in the Lahore High Court by Azhar Siddique. The petitioner adopted the stance that prices of petroleum products had fallen significantly at the international level.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recommended a reduction in the price of petrol by Rs15 per litre. Siddique, through the petition, contended that Ministry of Finance took an illegal action by rejecting the prime minister’s recommendation.
Petrol price reduced by only Rs4.74 per litre
In the petition, it was requested that the court should order the finance ministry to issue a notification to reduce the price of petrol as per the recommendation of the prime minister.
It should be recalled that last night, the Ministry of Finance, ignoring the instructions of PM Shehbaz Sharif, issued a notification of a slight reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel.
According to the notification, the price of petrol has been reduced by Rs4.74 per litre while the price of diesel has been reduced by Rs3. 86 per litre.
