LHC orders Hassan Niazi’s court appearance

Hassan Niazi

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered Hassan Niazi to be produced in court tomorrow.

Niazi, a lawyer and the nephew of the PTI Chairman, was sought by the Lahore police from Quetta police on charges related to the May 9 Jinnah House attack.

Niazi was arrested a few days back from Abbottabad while reportedly hiding at a friend’s house. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police had handed him over to Quetta police.

Niazi, along with 200 other accused persons had been absconding the police, which began the process of declaring him a proclaimed offender.

The May 9 incidents were a series of violent protests that erupted across Pakistan after the PTI chief was arrested from the premises of the Islamabad High Court. He was accused of being involved in money laundering and misappropriation of funds through a charity organisation called Al-Qadir Trust.

The PTI supporters took to the streets and clashed with the police and security forces. They also attacked and vandalised several government and military installations, including Jinnah House, the residence of Lahore’s Corps Commander.
