Lightning strikes claim four lives in Mansehra and Kamoke


Lightning strikes claimed lives of at least four people, including a young girl, in Mansehra and Kamoke respectively on Friday.

MANSEHRA/KAMOKE: Lightning strikes claimed the lives of at least four people, including a young girl, in the city of Mansehra and Kamoke in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab respectively on Friday.

According to sources, rescue officials were quick to respond and attend to the victims.

The lightning struck amidst heavy rain currently plaguing entire country. With the exception of Sindh, unusual rainfall has lead to warnings of flash floods, landslides and lightning across central and northern Pakistan.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has repeatedly been issuing weather alerts warning of lightning strike and localised floods for Balochistan, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, KP and northern Punjab for weeks.

In Mansehra, three people were killed when lightning struck during the unforgiving weather. Despite rescue efforts, the victims could not be saved.

Similarly, in Kamoke, a young girl lost her life due to a lightning strike during a heavy shower of rain. Rescue officials rushed to the scene but could not revive the young girl.

Lightning strikes in the current unpredictable weather has claimed scores of lives across Pakistan this year alone.

On April 14, Balochistan recorded seven fatalities as victims were struck by lightning.

The day before, eleven people lost their lives in separate incidents of lightning strikes across Balochistan and Punjab when heavy rains swept through the provinces. In Balochistan, four people were killed by lightning in Surab, Dera Bugti, and Pishin districts.

Similarly, seven people were killed due to lightning strikes in Rahim Yar Khan, Liaquatpur, Khairpur Daha, and Bahawalpur districts.

In yet another case, two children perished when lightning struck in Quetta on April 12.
