Mall Road declared off-limits for helmetless motorcycle riders

LAHORE: City Traffic Police has launched a Helmet Enforcement Drive in the city under which Mall Road, has been declared off-limits for helmetless motorcycle riders.

 Barriers have been erected at all strategic spots of the Mall Road and riders without helmets are being stopped  at Cantt, Zafar Ali Road, Canal Road, Governor House, and Istanbul Chowk.

Lahore’s Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Athar has said that positive results are emerging from the helmet enforcement drive. She said that head injury cases have notably dropped, easing the burden on hospitals. Despite 90 percent compliance, stricter measures are needed, she said.

Further elaborating CTO Ammara said that during this year, more than 78,000 riders have been penalised for violating the helmet rule.

The imposed penalty for riding without a helmet is Rs. 2,000. Stressing the advantages, Athar emphasizes that wearing helmets is beneficial for citizens’ safety.
