Mayo Hospital injection case: Nurses found guilty

Mayo hospital injection case

LAHORE: The government investigation committee probing the Mayo Hospital injection case has concluded that the nurses were negligent in preparing the antibiotic injection mixture

has concluded that the antibiotic injection Ceftriaxone was safe for use and did not cause adverse reactions at Mayo Hospital. Instead, the issue arose due to improper mixing of the injection.

According to a report by the Drug Testing Laboratory, nurses mistakenly mixed the injection powder with Ringer Lactate and calcium water instead of sterile distilled water, leading to severe reactions in patients.

The samples of the injection were sent for laboratory testing on March 10. The report confirmed that physical, assay, and identification tests found no traces of Lignocaine. It stated that the injection itself was safe, but improper dilution caused complications.

He added that additional legal action would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

The Punjab government had taken notice of the incident, with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz pledging to tackle systemic flaws in public healthcare.
