Weather update: Met Office warns of potential crop damage due to heavy rainfall

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a warning of potential damage to crops due to heavy rainfall accompanied by wind and hailstorms on Sunday.
In the latest weather update by PMD, thunderstorms with lightning is also expected to occur. This poses a great risk to crops, vehicles, solar panels, and other structures. The Met Office urged residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Farmers are warned to exercise caution while securing their livestock and agricultural crops.

The PMD also issued weather warning for possible landslides in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) due to the heavy rain.
Throughout Saturday, heavy rain accompanied by winds or hail, and snowfall were witnessed across the country. Areas across KP, Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, and GB experienced thunderstorms, with fears of landslides and floods increasing due to incessant rain.
The Met Office recorded detailed rain and snowfall measurements for various regions. In KP, Upper Dir recdeived highest rainfall at 70 mm, with Peshwar trailing behind at 65 mm and Cherat at 64.
In Balochistan, Sibbi received 34 mm, while in GB, Chilas and Astore recorded highest rainfall for the region at 21 and 16 mm respectively.

In Punjab, Murree was blasted with 22 mm of rainfall, while in the capital, Islamabad received 17 mm and Rawalpindi 16 mm.
As per PMD, Kalam received five inches of snow.
Meanwhile, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Mithi, and Tando Jam experienced highest temperature for the day at 39 degrees Celsius and 37 degrees Celsius respectively.
