ISLAMABAD: Amid escalating tensions in Islamabad, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has reiterated government’s resolute stand, asserting that the government will not allow false narratives to undermine the country’s stability.

Speaking on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest – which the government has labelled as disruptive – he said, “They come to Islamabad every other day trying to lay siege. We will not let it happen,” Naqvi said.

He elaborated on the government’s efforts to maintain order, particularly ensuring the importance of ensuring that medical facilities remain accessible. “We are trying to clear the way to hospitals,” he noted, adding, “The whole situation is in front of you.”

The interior minister said, “The actions of PTI are wrong and cannot be allowed to continue”. He informed that the police force, including the top command, is on high alert. “[PTI] wants to shut down the whole country, [but] their wish will not be fulfilled,” he added.

Naqvi reiterated that the Islamabad police and administration have fulfilled their duty, with law enforcement officials remaining unarmed in the face of protests. “None of our police officers have weapons,” Naqvi assured. However, he said, videos and photos circulating show that some protesters have arrived armed. “The government will not permit the destruction of public or private property,” Naqvi said.
