Motorway M2 shut from Islamabad to Kot Momin amid heavy fog

ISLAMABAD: Motorway M2 is currently closed to traffic between Islamabad and Kot Momin due to dense fog, a spokesperson for the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) confirmed.
The poor visibility led to the blockage of vehicles heading towards Lahore, as well.

Authorities advised commuters to remain cautious while driving and seek alternative routes until the fog dissipated.
Alternative route
Alternative routes available for those needing to travel between Islamabad and Lahore include the Grand Trunk (GT) road. Although it may experience increased traffic as commuters seek to bypass the closed motorway.

Motorways shutting down due to fog is commonplace, particularly during the dry winter months. The low visibility increases risk of deadly accidents.

They also inform motorists about road conditions and closures.
