RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Home Secretary, Noorul Amin Mengal, has officially dismissed Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram, Assistant Superintendent Riyaz Khan, and two warders from their positions at Adiala Jail following an inquiry into the murder of a detainee in the psychiatric ward of the jail.

The inquiry, initiated by the Inspector General of Prisons Punjab, began following the tragic incident on February 29. The inquiry found Akram and six other employees guilty of negligence and misconduct.

It recommended the dismissal of four employees, which led to the issuance of show-cause notices on August 30, prompting responses from the implicated staff. However, Deputy Superintendent Akram did not attend the hearing.

In addition to their dismissals, warder Nisar Mahmood was also terminated from service, while warder Amir Abbas faced the same fate due to his shift duties. Furthermore, Assistant Superintendent Mahmood-ul-Hassan, who was on night duty, received a two-year suspension from service, while head warder Wajid was penalized with a one-year suspension.
