Public transport fares further reduced in Punjab

Transporters reduce fares in Lahore

LAHORE: The Punjab government has further reduced public transport fares, providing relief to citizens in the wake of the federal government’s fifth consecutive reduction in petroleum prices.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari announced the new fare cuts, stating that they aim to ease the financial burden on commuters.

Bokhari highlighted that the biggest fare cut has been applied to the Lahore-Karachi route, with a reduction of Rs190. She said that Punjab is the only province where public transport fares are consistently reduced in response to drops in petrol and diesel prices, ensuring that passengers benefit directly from these changes.

Other major reductions include a Rs50 cut for the Lahore-Peshawar route and a Rs20 reduction for the Lahore-Rawalpindi route.

The minister stated that the district administration and transport department officials are actively monitoring the implementation of these fare reductions, with new fare boards displayed at all bus terminals.

“We are also grateful to the transporters in Punjab who cooperate with the provincial government,” Bokhari said, acknowledging the collaboration of the transport sector in ensuring these reductions reach the public.

She further mentioned that since Maryam Nawaz’s government took office, fares in Punjab have been consistently decreasing alongside reductions in fuel prices. Bokhari urged other provinces to follow Punjab’s lead and pass on similar relief to their citizens whenever petrol and diesel prices drop.
