PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has ordered de-freezing properties worth billions of rupees in Donga Gali, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which belong to the former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif and his wife Nusrat Shehbaz.
The NAB Punjab has conveyed the decision of the de-freezing and detachment of properties through a formal letter to the Abbottabad deputy commissioner.
The letter said that the NAB initiated an investigation back in December 2019 against Shahbaz Sharif, his son Hamza Shahbaz and Sulaiman Shahbaz and others in a money laundering case.
Shehbaz, Hamza acquitted in money laundering case
The NAB letter said that as a result of the said investigation, assets, notably the nine-kanal Nishat Lodge and other properties of Shehbaz and his family in Galiyat Donga Gali were frozen.
However, on July 20, 2023, when the accountability court acquitted Shehbaz Sharif and his family members of the charges. In correspondence with the court’s acquittal order, the NAB has now decided to de-freeze the properties belonging to the former premier and his family.
In the communication, the NAB has instructed the Abbottabad deputy commissioner to send a comprehensive report regarding the de-freezing of the properties back to the NAB Punjab.
