NAB raids Bahira Town’s Rawalpindi office

Bahira town raid

RAWALPINDI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) conducted a raid at Bahria Town’s Rawalpindi office late on Tuesday night to seize records related to the Al-Qadir Trust case.

The Al-Qadir Trust case is a high-profile investigation involving allegations of corruption and misuse of authority. The case centres around a property deal linked to the trust, which is associated with former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.

Malik Riaz, a prominent real estate tycoon and chairman of Bahria Town, is a central figure in the case. He is known for his significant influence in Pakistan’s real estate sector and has been involved in various legal and financial controversies over the years. Bahria Town, his flagship enterprise, has developed some of the largest private real estate projects in Pakistan.

Imran Khan, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf former chairman, is also implicated in the Al-Qadir Trust case. The trust, reportedly managed by Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, is under scrutiny for allegedly receiving undue financial benefits and land from Malik Riaz in exchange for political favors and protection.

The NAB is investigating claims that Malik Riaz transferred valuable properties and funds to the Al-Qadir Trust in exchange for favorable treatment by the government during Imran Khan’s tenure as prime minister. These allegations suggest a potential quid pro quo arrangement, where Malik Riaz benefited from political protection and facilitation in his business dealings.

Sources said that the raid on Bahria Town’s Rawalpindi office was aimed at seizing documents and records that could provide evidence of these transactions.

Earlier on Sunday, Malik Riaz stated that he was facing “political motives” pressure.”

“All my life, Allah has always guided me to stand by my principle of not taking any political side or being used by one party against the other. For over a year now, I’ve been under immense pressure to compromise, but I’ll never allow anyone to use me as a pawn for political motives,” he wrote in a post on social media platform ‘X’.

“From 1996 till today, I’ve been ‘punished’ for contributing towards the progress of the country. I have faced such pressures in the past with absolute grit and strength. Even today, in a personal capacity, I can say with utmost certainty, ‘over my dead body’”, he added.
