National leaders send greetings as Pakistani Christians celebrate Easter

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has conveyed Easter greetings to the Christian community of Pakistan. “Easter is a celebration of hope, renewal and life,” he said, adding, “Easter reminds us of compassion, sacrifice and forgiveness.”

The President said, “The spirit of unity and harmony makes us a nation.” He said that the constitution of Pakistan fully guarantees the rights of minorities, adding that the government is committed to the development and empowerment of minorities. “The Christian community played an important role in the development of Pakistan,” President Zardari added.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended his greetings to the Christian community in Pakistan and around the world on the occasion of Easter. “Easter is a symbol of renewal and hope. [It] reminds us of the greatness of faith and the teachings of Prophet Isa (Jesus Christ).”

He said in his Easter message, “I pay tribute to the role of the Christian community in the national construction and development of Pakistan.”

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on this occasion, “Happy Easter to the Christian community. Easter is a symbol of hope and a festival of sharing happiness. [It] is a manifestation of the spirit of goodness and inclination towards righteous qualities in human life. The teachings of Hazrat Isa (A.S.) teach humanity, love and brotherhood.”

Naqvi said, “The Christian community has not only contributed to the Pakistan Movement but is also playing its full role in the construction and development of the country. The love of the Christian community for the beloved homeland is beyond doubt.”

The Interior Minister added, “We must pledge to spread the message of brotherhood and unity.”

Punjab govt issues security directives for Good Friday and Easter celebrations

Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Ramesh Singh also conveyed his heartfelt Easter greetings to the Christian community of Pakistan. “Happy Easter to Christian brothers and sisters across the country. Easter gives a message of love, sacrifice and hope. Let us all promote brotherhood together. Let us spread the message of peace, prosperity and unity together,” Ramesh Singh Arora said.
