NDMA issues heavy monsoon spell alert

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued directives to all relevant departments to remain on high alert as heavy rain spell is set to enter the country from July 4 and continue till July 8.

According to NDMA spokesperson Muhammad Idrees, heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms were expected in various parts of the country. He said that there was also a heightened risk of landslides in hilly areas amid vigorous monsoon spell.

The spokesperson asked the institutions concerned to ensure the availability of emergency machinery and staff given the high risk of urban flooding and flash floods in various parts of the country.

“It is essential for tourists and travelers to stay informed about the weather conditions before embarking on their journeys,” the spokesperson said.

He said that farmers and livestock owners should take necessary precautionary measures considering the prevailing weather conditions and relevant institutions should provide advance notices to residents in flood-prone areas.
