LAHORE: In a recent announcement, Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique revealed that the government is accelerating its efforts to revamp public hospitals in Punjab, with projects being completed on a priority basis.

One of the major initiatives in the pipeline is the launch of ‘Clinic on Wheels,’ a mobile healthcare service aimed at increasing medical access for the people of Punjab.

Rafique shared these developments during his address at a CEOs and Medical Superintendents (MS) conference.

The conference saw the attendance of key health sector officials, including Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan, Special Secretaries M. Iqbal and M. Ahmed, Additional Secretaries Rashid Irshad, Khizar Afzal, and Dr Younis, along with various directors and deputy secretaries.

During the meeting, Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan outlined the health sector priorities set by Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz. He highlighted the government’s focus on improving the quality of healthcare services across the province.

Rafique said that the Chief Minister is committed to making significant improvements in the health sector and has ordered strict action against quacks, describing them as “the real enemies of humanity.”

Moreover, he announced plans to close down illegal blood banks operating in Punjab, with Medical Superintendents expected to demonstrate strong leadership in this endeavor.

Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing key challenges in the health sector, including the shortage of medicines in government hospitals.

According to The News, he also mentioned that a new project is underway to deliver medications to heart, tuberculosis (TB), and hepatitis patients at their homes.

These efforts are part of a broader strategy to assess and improve the current conditions in government hospitals through regular visits and close monitoring.
