KARACHI: Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz has assured residents that there is no imminent threat of a heat wave in Karachi.
According to Sarfraz, a heatwave is characterized by temperatures rising 4 to 5 degrees above the normal range, with temperatures remaining at or above 41 degrees Celsius for at least four consecutive days.
“The situation in Karachi does not currently meet these criteria,” said Sarfraz. “On Saturday, the temperature reached 40 degrees Celsius, but yesterday it dropped to 36 degrees. Today, we expect it to be around 35 or 36 degrees.”
Sarfraz further stated that the weather is expected to remain similar for the next 10 days, with temperatures fluctuating between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius due to a sea breeze blowing in the city.

Residents can rest assured that while temperatures are high, the conditions do not constitute a heat wave in Karachi, according to the chief meteorologist’s analysis.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted that the country may experience three heatwaves in various cities during the next 25 days.
The presence of high pressure in the upper atmosphere will result in heatwave conditions in most parts of the country, especially Punjab and Sindh from May 21 and a severe heatwave from May 23 to 27, the advisory warned.
Daytime temperatures are “likely to remain 4 to 6 degrees centigrade above normal” in Sindh and Punjab from May 21 to 23 and six to 8°C from May 23 to 27.
