Notices issued on 171 appeals related to nomination papers

PESHAWAR: In a recent development at the Peshawar Appellate Court, a series of notices have been issued pertaining to cases associated with nomination papers.
The court has summoned the concerned Returning Officers (ROs) in response to 171 appeals. The hearings on these notices are scheduled to take place from January 5 to 9.

The matters under consideration include appeals from prominent political figures such as Asad Qaiser, Sher Afzal Marwat, Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Shahram Tarkai, Mehmood Jan, Arbab Sher Ali, Iftikhar Mashwani, Abdul Salam Afridi, Khaleequr Rehman, Atif Khan, Mujahid Khan, and Shandana Gulzar.
Peshawar Appellate Court has issued summons in an effort to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process. As the hearings unfold, the court aims to address concerns raised in connection with the nomination papers.
Nomination papers of 77 per cent PTI candidates approved
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the nomination papers of 77 per cent of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed candidates for both national and provincial assemblies have been approved, while 23 per cent faced rejection, according to Hum News investigation team.
The data reveals that nomination papers of 1,996 out of 2,620 candidates endorsed by PTI were approved for 859 general seats in the 2024 general elections. This translates into 77 per cent acceptance rate for PTI-backed candidates.
