HARIPUR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub Khan has made a public appearance after a hiatus of six months, coinciding with the passing of his father, former Foreign Minister Gohar Ayub Khan. The senior Khan succumbed to illness in a private hospital in Islamabad.

Omar Ayub Khan arrived in Rehana, Haripur, on Saturday, to pay his respects and attend the funeral of his late father. The funeral will take place at 3 pm on Saturday (today), and is expected to draw several political figures to bid farewell to the seasoned politician.

This marks Omar Ayub Khan’s first public appearance in several months, during which he had been maintaining a low profile, reportedly to avoid arrest in connection with multiple cases linked to the violent protests on May 9.

He is among a handful of PTI leaders who have managed to avoid arrest while maintaining their affiliation with the party, despite being declared an absconder in several cases.

Omar Ayub Khan assumed the role of the party’s secretary-general following the resignation of Asad Umar in the aftermath of the May 9 incidents. Despite his absence from public events, he remained active on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where he announced his father’s passing and shared details of the funeral arrangements.

He joined PTI in 2018 and served as the Minister for Petroleum, Energy, and Economic Affairs under the PTI government.
