ISLAMABAD: Speaking to journalists in the Parliament, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member and opposition leader Omar Ayub strongly criticized the government’s handling of the recent constitutional amendment draft bill.
SC dismisses petition for vote recount; rejects allegations of bias
Raising concerns over its implications for the country’s constitutional framework and democracy, he said that if the bill were to pass, it could lead to Martial Law in the country.
Ayub revealed that senior political figures, including Maulana Fazlur Rehman, had already rejected the draft, adding that even government allies, such as Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, were unaware of the bill’s contents.
Ayub accused the government of orchestrating a negative campaign within the special committee responsible for the bill, claiming that many officials were acting as “puppets.”
The opposition leader also took issue with the government’s plans to establish a super court for Supreme Court Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa. “Why are constitutional matters not resolved by forming a constitutional bench in the Supreme Court?” he said.

Ayub vehemently rejected any notion of a super court, calling it “unacceptable” and raising alarms over the 57 constitutional amendments proposed by Articles 8, 199, and 200. He argued that such an institution could lead to political manipulation, installing political figures, and allowing them to bypass existing laws.
Speaking on PTI’s upcoming Lahore rally, he said that it would be held despite any hindrances and called on party workers to prepare for the event.
