ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will co-host the third United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Conference alongside with South Korea on April 15-16, the Foreign Office announced on Monday. The two-day conference will focus on enhancing safety and effectiveness of peacekeeping missions through technology and integrated strategies.

The event titled “Towards a Safer and More Effective Peacekeeping: Leveraging Technology and Integrated Strategies” will bring together global stakeholders and senior UN officials. It will serve as a preparatory meeting for the UN Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping scheduled for May 13-14 in Berlin.

Pakistan remains one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping operations, currently deploying over 4,000 military and police personnel to various missions worldwide. The conference will feature high-level discussions on modern challenges facing peacekeepers and potential technological solutions to improve mission safety and coordination.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said the event would include a series of deliberations on the future of UN peacekeeping operations. Senior Pakistani officials and top UN representatives are expected to attend the Islamabad conference.

The announcement comes as UN peacekeeping faces increasing challenges in conflict zones, with growing concerns about the safety of personnel. Pakistan has been a consistent participant in UN missions since 1960, having served in 46 missions across 28 countries with over 200,000 personnel deployments to date.
