Peace our priority, but we can teach a lesson if needed: Shehbaz

KARACHI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday visited the Pakistan Navy Dockyard and paid glowing tribute to the country’s armed forces for their “historic and unforgettable” response to recent Indian aggression, saying the enemy was taught a lesson “it will remember till the end of time.”

Accompanied by Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu and Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf, the prime minister addressed Navy officers and sailors, stating that the entire nation stood firmly behind its armed forces like a “wall of steel.”

“Our Army precisely hit enemy positions, our Air Force used advanced technology to strike targets, and our Navy was fully prepared — so much so that the enemy dared not advance. “Like the victory at Dwarka in 1965, our Navy was ready to repeat history, but the enemy didn’t have the courage to face us again.”

He praised the Navy’s operational readiness and lauded its strategic deterrence. “India’s pride, the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, couldn’t come within 400 nautical miles of our waters. Our Navy’s preparedness alone was enough to hold them back.”

The prime minister honoured Lieutenant Yasir, a martyr from PNS Mehran, for sacrificing his life while protecting Pakistan’s naval assets. “He stood firm against the enemy, laid down his life, and didn’t let our dignity or maritime strength be compromised. He and all our martyrs and veterans are the pride of the nation.”

Shehbaz said the joint operational coordination under Army Chief General Asim Munir ensured a decisive military and moral victory. “Pakistan’s ports remained fully operational. Trade continued at Karachi and Port Qasim uninterrupted, while India’s western coastline fell silent.”

Referring to the Indian losses, the PM said, “After seeing what happened to their Rafale jets, the Vikrant fled the battlefield and didn’t look back. Our ‘sharks’ made their ‘whale’ run.”

He noted that Pakistan Navy had undergone remarkable development over the past 15 years and had reshaped the naval balance in the Arabian Sea. “Even the enemy acknowledges that our Navy has changed the power equation.”

Shehbaz Sharif also expressed gratitude to all officers and soldiers of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as to allied and friendly nations.

He especially thanked China for its steadfast support, calling it a “true friend in every difficult time,” and appreciated former US President Donald Trump for playing a key role in halting the conflict.

“President Trump acted as a sincere friend and even expressed willingness to play a constructive role on the Kashmir issue,” the prime minister said.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace, Shehbaz Sharif stressed: “We are a peace-loving nation and desire peaceful solutions to all disputes. But if war is imposed on us again, the enemy will find us fully prepared. We harbour no aggressive ambitions, but we know how to defend every inch of our homeland.”
