Peshawar jirga calls for provincial meeting after Bannu incident

PESHAWAR: Peshawar recently hosted a jirga session at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister’s House to address the fallout from the Bannu incident.
The Peshawar jirga was attended by key officials such as the KP Chief Secretary and Inspector General. The session concluded with urgent demands and commitments.
Members of the jirga pressed for an immediate provincial apex committee meeting within 24 hours to tackle the incident’s aftermath effectively.

The session saw participation from the regional police officer (RPO) of Bannu, alongside the commissioner and deputy commissioner. Together, they discussed a comprehensive 16-point agenda with the KP Chief Minister and other senior officials.
Central to the discussions was the Chief Minister’s assurance to quickly convene the provincial apex committee.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa witnessed multiple violent incidents on Friday. In Bannu, a peace rally advocating for increased security turned tragic when gunfire erupted, resulting in one fatality and injuring 22 others in a panic-induced stampede.

The rally was organised by local traders and political groups. It escalated into clashes with security forces near Bannu cantonment, exacerbating tensions.
