Petrol price hike: Pakistan vents on twitter

ISLAMABAD: The caretaker government on Monday jacked up the price of petrol by up to Rs17.50. The increase in petroleum prices has stirred unrest among Pakistanis.
Many Pakistanis took to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction over the petrol price hike. Some resorted to sharing amusing memes, while others proposed potential solutions to the issue at hand.

Fares hike following petroleum price surge
In the past 5 years, every new government has made one nostalgic for the previous one. Caretaker government's petrol bomb is sending the same message. Time to realize that its not about individuals, the entire system is rigged against the working/salaried class.

Last night, on the recommendation of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the Finance Division issued a notification, increasing the new prices of petrol to Rs290.45 per litre and diesel by Rs20 per litre.
According to the notification, the price of diesel, which is used mostly by transport vehicles, has reached Rs293.40 per litre.

Separately, the Pakistani rupee weakened by Rs3.42 against the US dollar and closed at Rs294.93 in the interbank market on Tuesday, the State Bank of Pakistan said.
Overall, the Pakistani currency depreciated by -1.16 per cent against the US dollar.
In addition, the price of gold in Pakistan witnessed an increase of Rs900 per tola today, according to Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers’ Association (APSGJA).
