ISLAMABAD: The election for the Prime Minister is scheduled to occur in the National Assembly on March 3, 2024, as per a notification issued by the National Assembly Secretariat.

The scrutiny of nomination papers will be finalized by 3 pm on the same day (Saturday). The Prime Ministerial election will be conducted by dividing members in the House.

The PML-N has selected Shehbaz Sharif while the PTI-SIC has put forward Omar Ayub as their nominee for the position of Prime Minister. To win, a candidate must secure 169 votes.

In terms of parliamentary representation, the PML-N is the largest political party in the National Assembly with 108 seats, followed by the PTI-SIC with 81 seats. The PPP, which is an ally of the PML-N, holds the third position with 68 seats.
