PM Shehbaz and PM Ibrahim condemn Israel

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a press conference with Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim, here on Thursday. The two leaders talked about bilateral relations, global political climate, economy and tourism.

PM Shehbaz began by discussing the strong relations relations that the two countries share, stating that he had a detailed discussion regarding bilateral cooperation and regional affairs.

He lauded the Malaysian premier for his endurance while fighting for Malaysian people as well as for promoting relations between his nation and Pakistan. PM Shehbaz said that Pakistan would like to elevate relations with Malaysia to “new heights.”

In response, PM Ibrahim referenced the statements of Quaid-e-Azam in his speech, saying that “the address of Quaid-e-Azam to the constituent Assembly in 1947 was historic.”

He went on to state that he has fond memories associated with Rawalpindi and other cities of Pakistan.

Both the Prime Ministers condemned the Israeli aggression in the West Bank, Gaza, and Lebanon.

“In Gaza, Lebanon, and Yemen, humanity is being killed,” said PM Shehbaz, with PM Ibrahim adding that “human rights considerations are being overlooked in the Middle East.”

On the subject of Kashmir, PM Shehbaz stated that the “people in occupied Kashmir are making sacrifices for their rights,” adding that “despite inhumane atrocities, the Kashmiris continue their struggle for freedom.”

Talking about the economy and exports, PM Shehbaz said that the government reviewed the export of $200 million worth of halal meat to Malaysia, as well as matters related to the export of Basmati rice.

The Malaysian PM emphasised that when it comes to the import of halal meat, Pakistan is Malaysia’s priority. He added that investments are being made into the information technology sector in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) nations, and Malaysia is a centre for information technology.

Finally, PM Ibrahim said that Malaysia welcomes Pakistani tourists, saying that their arrival will help enhance economic activity.
