PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with the Chinese ambassador on Thursday, with both sides discussing matters of mutual interest and regional developments, especially India’s jingoistic escalation to the Pahalgam attack last week.

The Chinese ambassador assured Pakistan of Beijing’s support in maintaining regional peace and stability. The premier also thanked China for backing Islamabad’s position on India’s controversial moves, including its violation of the Indus Waters Treaty.

“India’s weaponisation of water is deeply regrettable,” PM Shehbaz said, adding that New Delhi’s deviation from the treaty was unacceptable.

He also expressed gratitude to China for endorsing Pakistan’s call for an impartial international investigation into the Peshawar incident: “Pakistan has suffered significant economic losses in its efforts to promote global security.”
