PM Shehbaz meets OIC Secretary-General in Islamabad


Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held discussions with the Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held discussions with the Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The meeting between the two leader centred on pressing issues impacting the Muslim community globally, including educational initiatives, regional Conflicts and collaborative efforts against ‘Islamophobia’.

Shehbaz thanked the OIC Secretary General for his participation in the upcoming International Conference on Girls’ Education in Muslim Countries, set to take place in Islamabad on Saturday and Sunday.

The PM noted the conference’s objective of improving female education and empowerment throughout the Muslim world.

Shehbaz commended the OIC SG for his active engagement within the OIC and stated that Pakistan was dedicated to promoting the organisation’s collective goals.

The PM also addressed the longstanding Jammu and Kashmir issue, as he thanked the OIC for its support in accordance with the relevant UN and OIC resolutions.  

He condemned the ongoing atrocities and genocide in Palestine, calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza, along with unrestricted access to humanitarian assistance for the Palestinians.

Meanwhile, the OIC SG also thanked the Pakistani PM for a warm reception and hospitality. He noted that the conference on girls’ education was a testament to Pakistan’s leadership in tackling critical issues facing the Muslim world.

The SG stated that the OIC supported Kashmiris’ quest for self-determination and provided an update on the organisation’s diplomatic initiatives on the matter.

Both leaders concurred on the importance of the OIC maintaining pressure on the global community for a ceasefire in Gaza. They agreed that a resolution to the Palestinian occupation should align with the UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Palestinians.

The meeting also focused on combating Islamophobia and other regional and global issues of shared concerns.
