PM sends mangoes to Bangladesh

ISLAMABAD: Outgoing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sent a gift of Pakistani mangoes to the Bangladeshi president, prime minister, and other dignitaries, as a gesture of goodwill.

In a tweet on X (formerly Twitter), Press Counsellor for Pakistan’s embassy in Bangladesh Fasiullah Khan affirmed that the “the gift of seasonal fresh mangoes” was in keeping with an annual tradition to reinforce diplomatic ties with fraternal states.

Pakistani mangoes are celebrated world over for their high quality and sweet taste. The Pakistani leadership often engages in what is termed ‘mango diplomacy’, when it sends the seasonal fruit to foreign dignitaries, or serves it at official and diplomatic events.

With a host of local varieties including the Sindhri, Chaunsa, Langra, Sonaro and Saroli mangoes, the national fruit sees a high demand in the international market.

The mangoes were dispatched a day before the expected dissolution of the National Assembly, as PM Shehbaz sees through his final week in office.

The dissolution of parliament will pave the way for an interim government to hold the next general elections in the country within the constitutionally stipulated time of 90 days.
