PM Shehbaz tribute to Allama Iqbal on 147th anniversary

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to poet Dr. Allama Mohammad Iqbal on Saturday, his 147th birth anniversary.

Allama Iqbal is a “visionary poet-philosopher and a towering figure,” said the PM, as he praised Iqbal’s thoughts and writings for the impact they have had on Pakistan and beyond.

The PM lauded Iqbal’s philosophy for providing Muslims of the subcontinent with a dream of a separate homeland, which led to the birth of Pakistan.

The PM stated that Iqbal’s “teachings on self-reliance, self-awareness, and unity remain a source of inspiration for us to strive for progress and prosperity as a nation,” as he urged he youth of Pakistan to achieve greatness through hard work and unwavering faith.

“Allama Iqbal’s poetry is not just a reflection of his time but a timeless call for action and introspection,” said PM Shehbaz in his message, later promising to follow Iqbal’s vision of creating a nation which reflects the ideals of equality, justice, and excellence that Iqbal promoted through his work.

The PM ended his message by stating “let us embody his teachings and move forward with renewed hope and determination.”

Acting President Yousaf Raza Gillani also paid tribute to Dr. Iqbal, as he stated his “vision and thoughts kindled the spirit of independence among Muslims of the Subcontinent.”

Gillani said that “Iqbal’s ideas paved the way for the creation of an independent country,” citing his address at the All-India Muslim League in 1930, in which he voiced the demand of Muslims to safeguard their rights.

“Iqbal championed Muslim rights and political representation in British India, laying the groundwork for creating an independent homeland for the Muslims of the Subcontinent,” the acting president said, before discussing how Iqbal shaped Pakistan’s identity, through advocating for spiritual and cultural revival, as well as emphasizing Islamic values.

Iqbal’s poetry and philosophy remain a testament to his intellectual brilliance and spiritual depth,” said Gillani, citing various masterpieces by the Poet through which he “explored identity, spirituality, and the pursuit of freedom.”

On this anniversary, the acting president asked the people of Pakistan to build a better future for the country by renewing their commitment to Iqbal’s teachings.
