PM Shehbaz wraps up US tour, heads back home

NEW YORK: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif departed for London on Friday evening on his way back to Pakistan after a busy week-long visit to the United States (US), where he led Pakistan’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the trip, the prime minister also visited Washington and met US President Donald Trump at the White House. Pakistan’s Army Chief of Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asif Munir, accompanied him at the meeting.
At the airport, Shehbaz Sharif was seen off by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, Pakistan’s envoy to the U.S., along with senior officials from the Pakistan Mission and Consulate General.
Talking to media in the US before leaving, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said his meeting with US President Donald Trump was very encouraging, as America is ready to invest in trade, IT, and other sectors.
The Prime Minister said that President Trump expressed encouraging views regarding trade and investment with Pakistan. He added that discussions also covered the economy, counterterrorism, mineral resources, and cryptocurrency.
The Prime Minister further said that Donald Trump directed American companies to immediately invest in Pakistan, noting that the US is ready to invest in trade, IT, and other fields. He stressed that all agreements would be made on the basis of mutual interest.
Shehbaz says Pakistan won war against India, now wants peace
Shehbaz Sharif also stated that Field Marshal Asim Munir led the war, guiding the Pakistan Army with wisdom.
“I told him we have already won the war, we shot down seven of their aircraft, carried out attacks everywhere, and left them in shock. At that point, we decided not to go further and agreed to a ceasefire,” he said.
The Prime Minister added that the country’s economic situation has now stabilized at the micro level.
He praised overseas Pakistanis as the nation’s true ambassadors, noting that they sent $38.5 billion to Pakistan during the fiscal year 2024–25.
This marked the third occasion that Shehbaz Sharif has led Pakistan’s delegation to the 193-member UN General Assembly.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, along with Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, also returned with the prime minister.
