Police begins arresting PTI leaders nationwide, as caravans head to Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Police has begun arresting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders from across country.
In Multan, three PTI leaders have been reportedly arrested including a member of the National Assembly and a member of Punjab Provincial Assembly.
These include Zain Qureshi, Aamir Dogar and Moinuddin Riaz Qureshi, police officials have confirmed.
PTI leaders were going from Multan to Islamabad to participate in the protest rally, the police said, adding that the three people have been placed under house arrest over their potential threat to public peace.
Another PTI MNA has been arrested from Chichawatni for attempting to join PTI protest. Rai Hassan Nawaz was arrested along with dozens of PTI workers who were on their way from Chichawatni to Islamabad.
A member of National Assembly Rana Amir Shahzad was arrested from his farmhouse in Sahiwal, police said.
According to a news report by DAWN, PTI-backed MPA Asad Zaman Cheema, PTI activist Mian Muhammad Faheem, district PTI President Advocate Mian Abdul Basit, and Insaf Youth Wing General Secretary Sheikh Hasan Raza have also been arrested.
CARAVANS MOVE TOWARDS ISLAMABAD
Meanwhile, groups of PTI supporters have started moving from different cities towards the heavily fortified capital.
A convoy left from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s residence in DI Khan for Islamabad.
The convoys from Tank South Waziristan and Lakki Marwat have also started reaching Hakla–Yarik Motorway Interchange.
These convoys will be led by Gandapur’s brother and tehsil mayor Omar Amin.
The convoy is also bringing heavy machinery with them to open the blocked road.
Another convoy from Karak is also enroute to Islamabad. A convoy led by Provincial Minister Allama Adnan Qadri and District General Secretary Haji Amir Khan left from Khyber District for Islamabad. Another convoy has left from Bannu, under PTI district president Peshawar Irfan Saleem and KP health minister Pakhtun Yar Khan.
