Police thwarts terrorist attack on check post in Taunsa District

Terrorists used rocket launchers, hand grenades, and laser light guns in attack

TAUNSA: Terrorists belonging to a banned organisation launched a coordinated attack on the Jhangi police check post in Taunsa district, Punjab. The onslaught, which occurred under during the night, saw 15 to 20 militants employing sophisticated weaponry including rocket launchers, hand grenades, and laser light guns.

Despite the initial failure of the local police to repel the attack, pre-alert personnel from the Punjab Police engaged the terrorists in a fierce battle lasting three hours. Eventually, the police succeeded in forcing the assailants to retreat as their ammunition dwindled.

However, several officers were injured during the clash, including Constable Muhammad Amir, Ashiq Zain, Rahmatullah, and Sanaullah. Additionally, Elite Constable Tariq and Shahid Manzoor sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Nishtar Hospital in Multan for treatment.

According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Police, the terrorists’ primary objective was to seize the Jhangi check post and hold its occupants hostage.

In the aftermath of the assault, Inspector General (IG) Punjab Usman Anwar condemned the terrorists’ actions and vowed to prevent further attacks. He lauded the resilience of the police force and assured that stringent measures would be taken to safeguard against future threats.

Both the Regional Police Officer (RPO) and the District Police Officer (DPO) of Dera Ghazi Khan promptly responded to the incident, deploying reinforcements to bolster security in the area. Prior to the attack, rehearsals of defensive strategies had been conducted, and additional personnel and equipment were provided to fortify the Jhangi check post.

Sub-Inspector Mohiuddin, who was in charge of the Jhangi check post, received commendation for his exemplary leadership in the defense of the post. IG Punjab instructed the authorities to ensure the injured officers receive the best possible medical care.
