Nationwide crackdown on electricity theft: Over 86,000 arrested, Rs122 billion recovered

LAHORE: More than 86,000 people have been arrested across Pakistan as part of a nationwide crackdown on electricity theft, resulting in the recovery of Rs122.357 billion in fines.
Launched in September 2023, the campaign has targeted major cities such as Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Multan, Peshawar, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Quetta. From these areas alone, authorities have managed to recover Rs1.353 billion from offenders.
According to Express News, in October, 224 more individuals were caught for stealing electricity, further boosting the efforts of the ongoing operation.
Officials remain determined to continue this campaign until electricity theft is entirely eliminated from the country.
