“Sentences would be commuted for those male prisoners who are aged 65 or above or those who have served at least one-third of their sentence. Women prisoners aged 60 or above or those who have served at least one-third of their sentence will be released,” said the statement.
Prisoners aged under 18 who have served at least one-third of their sentence would also be released.
However, the remission will not apply to those convicted of capital punishment, espionage, rape, bank robbery, anti-state activities, adultery, kidnapping and robbery.
