Protests, road blockages in Peshawar over prolonged load shedding

PESHAWAR: Protests broke out in different parts of Peshawar on Monday as frustrated residents took to the streets to voice their anger over prolonged and unannounced load shedding. Major roads, including Warsak Road and University Road, were closed, leading to significant traffic disruptions.

Residents from the Palosi area and neighbouring localities blocked Warsak Road for several hours, demanding immediate restoration of electricity. Meanwhile, in Tehkal, protestors shut down University Road, causing long queues of vehicles as commuters were left stranded in the scorching heat.

“We have been without electricity for several hours,” said one protestor. “The duration of load shedding has increased over the past few days, and we receive no prior warning. It’s unbearable.”

Citizens expressed frustration at the silence from the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) authorities, who have yet to address the issue of unannounced outages. Many called for immediate action and transparency in scheduling power cuts to avoid further disruptions to daily life.
